Seeking for internationalization of Science and Research and new impulses for cooperation between the University of Tübingen and partner universities in Brazil, Baden-Württembergisches Brasilien-Zentrum at the Universität Tübingen, launches the Program Tübingen Science Bridge - Connecting Brazil Germany, starting April, 2022. The program's goal is to promote and expand science, in addition intensify research cooperation through a sequence of lectures, online.

Scientists from several partner institutions will present their latest research data, promoting an integrated and constructive environment for scientific interaction and also contributing global knowledge.

The third webinar planned, which takes place on June 1 at 11:30 am BRT (04:30 pm MEZ), will focus on the area of Geo- and Environmental Research and has the participation of Prof. Dr. Kira Rehfeld, at the University of Tübingen, Geo and Environmental Research Center (Geo- und Umweltforschungszentrum - GUZ).

She will put on the agenda the theme “Sun, rain and forests: A past-to-future perspective on hydroclimate in Brazil and Southern Germany”.

The webinar will be held in English on the ZOOM platform in order to allow discussion and interaction.

Lecture Briefing: We can reconstruct the history of Earth’s climate changes – and the underlying causes – using present-day observations, paleoclimate archives, as well as climate models. For both Central Europe and Brazil a rich body of evidence is available, including data from lakes, loess deposits, trees, speleothems, and ice cores. I will first focus on the evidence of regional climate and vegetation change over the course of large-scale global warming. We start at the peak of the last Glacial period about 25 thousand years ago – when global mean temperature was between 3 and 8 degrees lower than today. European climate was then strongly impacted by the large ice sheets covering the Northern Hemisphere continents, with dryness, colder and more variable temperatures prevailing. Dynamic and thermodynamic contributions to Glacial precipitation change in South America, however, make reconstructions and model evidence difficult to reconcile so far. Fast forwarding to the year 2300, we find that the future climate evolution in both regions strongly depends on the chosen socioeconomic pathway.

Ela colocará em pauta a temática “Sun, rain and forests: A past-to-future perspective on hydroclimate in Brazil and Southern Germany”.

Das Thema lautet „Sun, rain and forests: A past-to-future perspective on hydroclimate in Brazil and Southern Germany”.
